LET'S TALK STRAIGHT

The fact is, illicit drugs and alcohol are readily available in our society today and the dangers and consequences are potentially devastating. Experiment reveals the drug’s immediate, sometimes pleasant, effect on the mind and body, but reveals little or nothing about the side effects and real dangers, particularly the accumulative effects. Young people can not be expected to know the long range consequences, psychological or physical, incurred by drug and alcohol use.

When addictive, drugs spell misery for users and those close to them. When they wreak their devastation, they respect no boundaries of income, race, occupation or geography. That is why our efforts must focus on young people - through outreach, peer to peer networks, and using opportunities such as sport to keep young people active, healthy, and confident.

Taking drugs or not is about making choices – informed choices. Yet too many people in Australia are badly informed about the potentially devastating effects/affects of drugs. For most of the young, the only source of knowledge comes from experiment or school-yard talk. Statistics show that the majority of young people try illicit drugs out of curiosity, followed by peer pressure.

In response to this need, The No-Way Campaign has developed it's “Let’s talk Straight” seminars, specifically designed to deliver honest and up to date information. It is through the education of our youth, their teachers and parents, that young people can be empowered to make healthy, positive, lifestyle choices and remain drug free.

As an organisation, we are committed to sustainable change, however, we openly confess, that just alone encouraging young people to say, 'no-way', to drugs - is not enough! That's why, an extensive amount of time and research has gone into developing our, 'Let's talk Straight' resources in order to achieve maximum results. We believe with careful strategic planning, over time our seminars when implemented in consultation with others over a calender year, will result in positive outcomes.

But more importantly, our seminars have been developed not only to encourage young people to say 'no-way' to drugs - but to help equip them with real life skills and strategies. The No-Way Campaign is here to assist in your efforts, along with those that support us. So let us arm young people with the information they need, to say 'no way' to drugs - and help to assist you in your continuing efforts in drug prevention.
